The EEOC has announced they plan to begin a series of meetings this week aimed at investigating employers using credit checks as a prior condition for employment. The issue has been of increasing importance as we are seeing the effects of the recession on American’s credit scores and financial histories.
The meeting aims to address the Equal Employment For All Act, a bill introduced into Congress last month. The law aims to make it unlawful for employers to base employment actions upon an employees credit score.
The introduction of this bill is important for workers everywhere. The recession has had a disastrous effect on millions of Americans credit. To not hire or fire an individual based upon circumstances out of their control is unfair, an if the Equal Employment For All Act is passed, would be illegal. Read more here.
